Climate change is one of the biggest challenges for life on Earth. Today, the world mainly runs on fossil fuels. We need to transform the way we power the world; from black to green energy.

At Ørsted, our vision is a world that runs entirely on green energy. We want to revolutionise the way we power people by developing green, independent and economically viable energy systems. By doing so, we create value for the societies that we’re a part of and for all our stakeholders.

A decade ago, we initiated our transformation from a black to a green energy company. Since then, we’ve reduced our use of coal by 73% and more than halved our carbon emissions.

By 2023, we’ll be completely coal-free and have reduced our carbon emissions by 96%. In 2017, we sold our oil and gas production business.

Over the past 25 years, we’ve established our company as a global leader in offshore wind with a 25% market share. We develop, construct and operate offshore wind farms, and we’ve built enough offshore wind farms to power 9.5 million people. By 2025, our ambition is to power 30 million people from our offshore wind farms.

We’re currently converting all our coal-fired power stations in Denmark to sustainable biomass. Another element of our bioenergy business platform is the Renescience technology which converts household waste to energy using enzymes.
